حضرت فضیل بن عیاضؒ اور خلیفہ ہارون الرشید؛ ایک دل ہلا دینے والا سبق آموز واقعہ
اسلامی تاریخ ایسے واقعات سے بھری پڑی ہے جو صرف قصے نہیں بلکہ دلوں کو زندہ کرنے والی نصیحتیں ہیں۔ ان ہی میں سے ایک واقعہ حضرت فضیل بن عیاضؒ اور عباسی خلیفہ ہارون الرشید کا ہے، جو ہمیں حکومت، ذمہ داری، آخرت کی فکر اور اللہ کے خوف کا عملی سبق دیتا ہے۔
حج کا سفر اور دل کی بےچینی
ایک مرتبہ خلیفہ ہارون الرشید حج کے لیے مکہ مکرمہ آئے۔ منیٰ میں قیام کی پہلی رات تھی۔ ان کے وزیر فضل بن ربیع دیر تک ان کے ساتھ رہے، پھر اجازت لے کر اپنے خیمے میں چلے گئے۔
کچھ ہی دیر گزری تھی کہ فضل نے خیمے کا دروازہ کھٹکھٹانے کی آواز سنی۔ باہر نکلے تو خود امیرالمؤمنین ہارون الرشید کھڑے تھے۔ فضل نے حیرت سے عرض کیا: امیرالمؤمنین! آپ نے زحمت کیوں فرمائی؟ حکم دیتے تو غلام حاضر ہو جاتا۔
ہارون الرشید نے کہا: میرے دل میں کسی مردِ کامل سے ملاقات کی خواہش ہے، مجھے کسی اللہ والے کے پاس لے چلو۔

علما و صلحا سے ملاقات
سب سے پہلے وہ امام سفیان بن عیینہؒ کے پاس گئے۔ ملاقات ہوئی، گفتگو ہوئی، اور جب قرض کا ذکر آیا تو خلیفہ نے فوراً ان کا قرض ادا کرنے کا حکم دیا۔ پھر محدث عبدالرزاق بن ہمامؒ کے پاس پہنچے۔ وہاں بھی یہی معاملہ ہوا، مگر دل کا سکون پھر بھی حاصل نہ ہوا۔
آخرکار فضل بن ربیع نے عرض کیا: امیرالمؤمنین! اس طرف حضرت فضیل بن عیاضؒ قیام پذیر ہیں۔
ہارون الرشید نے کہا: چلو، اب انہی کے پاس چلتے ہیں۔
حضرت فضیل بن عیاضؒ کا بےخوف انداز
جب وہ حضرت فضیلؒ کے خیمے پر پہنچے تو آپ عبادت میں مشغول تھے۔ دستک دی گئی، تعارف کروایا گیا، مگر حضرت فضیلؒ نے اندر سے فرمایا: امیرالمؤمنین کا یہاں کیا کام؟ مجھے میرے حال پر چھوڑ دو۔ اصرار پر دروازہ کھولا، مگر چراغ بجھا دیا تاکہ خلیفہ کا چہرہ نظر نہ آئے۔
اندھیرے میں ہاتھ ٹکرایا تو حضرت فضیلؒ نے فرمایا: کتنا نرم ہاتھ ہے! کاش یہ ہاتھ قیامت کے دن دوزخ کی آگ سے محفوظ رہے۔

خلیفہ کو ہلا دینے والی نصیحت
ہارون الرشید نے عرض کیا: اللہ آپ پر رحم کرے، مجھے نصیحت فرمائیے۔
حضرت فضیلؒ نے فرمایا: خلافت نعمت نہیں بلکہ آزمائش ہے، قیامت کے دن ہر مسلمان کے حق کا سوال ہوگا، اگر کوئی بڑھیا بھوکی سوئی، تو وہ بھی دامن پکڑے گی
پھر حضرت عمر بن عبدالعزیزؒ کا واقعہ بیان کیا اور فرمایا: جو اپنے لیے پسند کرو، وہی رعایا کے لیے پسند کرو۔ یہ سن کر ہارون الرشید پر رقت طاری ہو گئی اور وہ بےہوش ہو گئے۔

مال کی پیشکش اور انکار
ہوش میں آنے کے بعد خلیفہ نے پوچھا: کیا آپ پر کوئی قرض ہے؟
حضرت فضیلؒ نے فرمایا: ہاں، اللہ کا قرض ہے جس کا حساب دینا ہے۔
جب خلیفہ نے ایک ہزار دینار پیش کیے تو حضرت فضیلؒ نے سختی سے فرمایا: میں تمہیں نجات دلانا چاہتا ہوں اور تم مجھے ہلاکت میں ڈالنا چاہتے ہو! اور مال قبول کرنے سے انکار کر دیا۔
رخصتی اور اعترافِ حق
واپسی پر ہارون الرشید نے فضل بن ربیع سے کہا: دیکھا! مردانِ حق ایسے ہوتے ہیں۔ آئندہ مجھے ایسے ہی لوگوں کے پاس لے جایا کرو۔

اس واقعے سے ہمیں یہ عظیم سبق ملتا ہے کہ: دنیا کی طلب اصل کامیابی نہیں، اصل فکر آخرت کی جواب دہی ہے، حکومت اور اختیار امتحان ہیں، اعزاز نہیں، حق بات کہنے والا اللہ کا دوست ہوتا ہے، چاہے سامنے خلیفہ ہی کیوں نہ ہو
اللہ تعالیٰ ہمیں حضرت فضیل بن عیاضؒ کی نصیحتوں پر عمل کرنے کی توفیق عطا فرمائے۔

The Journey of Hajj and Inner Restlessness
Once, Caliph Harun al-Rashid traveled to Makkah to perform Hajj. On the first night of his stay in Mina, his minister Fadl bin Rabi‘ remained with him for some time and then retired to his own tent.
A little later, Fadl heard someone knocking at his tent. When he stepped outside, he was surprised to see Harun al-Rashid himself standing there. Fadl respectfully said: Ameer al-Mu’minin! Why did you take the trouble? Had you sent a message, I would have come immediately.
Harun al-Rashid replied: My heart longs to meet a true man of Allah. Take me to a righteous servant of Allah.

Meetings with Scholars and the Search for Peace
They first went to Imam Sufyan bin ‘Uyaynah (RA). After a brief conversation, when the Imam mentioned his debt, the Caliph immediately ordered that it be paid. Then they visited Abdul Razzaq bin Hammam (RA). The meeting was respectful, and once again the Caliph arranged for his debt to be settled. Yet, Harun al-Rashid felt that his heart was still not at peace.
Finally, Fadl said: O Ameer al-Mu’minin, Hazrat Fudayl bin Iyad (RA) resides nearby.
Harun al-Rashid replied: Let us go to him.
The Fearless Attitude of Hazrat Fudayl bin Iyad (RA)
When they reached Hazrat Fudayl’s tent, he was engaged in prayer or recitation of the Qur’an. Upon knocking and introducing the Caliph, Hazrat Fudayl (RA) said from inside: What business does the Ameer al-Mu’minin have with me? Leave me to my worship. Eventually, he opened the door but extinguished the lamp, so the Caliph’s face would not be visible.
In the darkness, when Harun al-Rashid’s hand touched his, Hazrat Fudayl (RA) said: How soft this hand is! How fortunate it would be if this hand were saved from the Fire of Hell on the Day of Judgment.

A Powerful Advice That Shook the Caliph
Harun al-Rashid humbly requested: May Allah have mercy on you, please advise me.
Hazrat Fudayl (RA) reminded him that: Leadership is a trial, not an honor. Every ruler will be questioned about each individual under his authority. Even a hungry old woman will claim her rights on the Day of Judgment
He then mentioned Umar bin Abdul Aziz (RA), who considered the Caliphate a test rather than a blessing, and quoted the advice of righteous scholars: Treat the elderly like your parents, those of your age like your brothers, and the young like your children. Desire for the Muslims what you desire for yourself. Hearing this, Harun al-Rashid was overwhelmed and began to weep intensely until he fainted.

Refusal of Wealth
After regaining consciousness, the Caliph asked: Do you have any debt?
Hazrat Fudayl (RA) replied: Yes, the debt I owe to Allah, for which I will be held accountable.
When Harun al-Rashid offered him a bag of one thousand dinars, Hazrat Fudayl (RA) firmly refused and said: I wish to save you, while you wish to destroy me! He made it clear that accepting such wealth was not his need.
Departure and Recognition of True Righteousness
When they left, Harun al-Rashid said to Fadl bin Rabi‘: These are the true men of Allah. Whenever I ask you to take me to a man of God, take me to someone like Fudayl bin Iyad.

Lessons from This Incident
This incident teaches us that: Worldly power and wealth are temporary. Leadership is a serious responsibility. Fear of Allah is the true measure of greatness. Speaking the truth before authority is the sign of true righteousness
