A Heart-Touching Supplication of a Bedouin: A Spiritual Incident That Awakens the Soul
In the Name of Allah, the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate
Throughout Islamic history, some supplications (duas) are so deep, so heartfelt, and so powerful that they shake the soul and soften even the hardest hearts. One such profound dua has been narrated by Shaykh al-Tusi in his classical work Al-Amali (Volume 1).
It was a simple Bedouin who made this dua but the sincerity, humility, and spiritual insight in his words were extraordinary.
“O Allah, grant me the deeds of those who fear You.” Fear of Allah purifies actions, removes hypocrisy, and keeps the heart awake. “And grant me the fear of those who act sincerely for Your sake.”
This is the fear that makes actions sincere and protects them from being wasted.
“So that I may find sweetness in abandoning worldly comforts, out of desire for what You have promised.” The heart that yearns for the eternal delights of the Hereafter detaches from temporary worldly pleasures. “And out of fear of what You have warned of.”
Meaning: let the fear of the Hereafter keep me away from sin. This dua teaches us that real success lies not in worldly comfort, but in the eternal blessings of the Hereafter.
“O Allah! You have rights over me that I have not fulfilled, so be generous to me by forgiving them. This is humility of the highest level acknowledging one’s shortcomings. “And people also have rights over me, so fulfill them on my behalf.”
A reminder that rights of people are not forgiven until they are returned. “And You have obligated hospitality upon everyone.” “And I am Your guest tonight, so let my hospitality be Paradise.”
There can be no greater expression of surrender, humility, and hope in Allah than this.
This powerful supplication teaches us three essential spiritual principles:
1️⃣ Fear of Allah and sincerity in actions
Fear keeps the heart pure; sincerity keeps deeds accepted.
2️⃣ Preference of the Hereafter over worldly pleasure
True believers look beyond temporary enjoyment.
3️⃣ Rights of Allah and rights of people
A complete believer fulfills both nothing is heavier than this on the Day of Judgment.
This beautiful dua of a simple Bedouin carries deep spiritual wisdom. If recited frequently, it softens the heart, awakens the soul, and increases one’s connection with Allah.
Allah accepts even the simplest words when they come from a sincere heart.
