نمازِ جنازہ کا مکمل طریقہ اور اس کے احکام
نمازِ جنازہ فرضِ کفایہ ہے۔ اگر بعض لوگوں نے ادا کر لی تو سب سے فرض ساقط ہو جائے گا، لیکن اگر کسی نے بھی نہ پڑھی تو سب گنہگار ہوں گے۔
نیت اور امام کی جگہ
امام میت کے سینے کے مقابل کھڑا ہو۔ اگر میت بالغ ہے تو اس کی دعائے مغفرت کا ارادہ کرے، اور اگر نابالغ ہے تو اسے اپنا فرط، اَجر، ذخیرہ اور شفاعت کرنے والا بنانے کا ارادہ کرے۔
نیت دل کے ارادے کا نام ہے۔ زبان سے نیت کے الفاظ کہنا نہ نبی ﷺ سے ثابت ہے، نہ صحابہ و ائمہ کرام سے۔ اس لیے دل میں یہ نیت کافی ہے:
"اللہ تعالیٰ کی رضا کے لیے فلاں میت کی نمازِ جنازہ ادا کر رہا ہوں، امام کی اقتدا میں۔"
نمازِ جنازہ کا طریقہ
1️⃣ صف بندی:
امام میت کے سینے کے برابر کھڑا ہو۔ حدیث میں ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے ایک عورت کی نمازِ جنازہ پڑھائی اور درمیان میں کھڑے ہوئے۔ (صحیح بخاری 2/89)
افضل یہ ہے کہ تین صفیں ضرور بنائی جائیں۔
رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: “جس مسلمان پر تین صفیں نمازِ جنازہ پڑھیں، اللہ اس کی مغفرت فرما دیتا ہے۔”
(السنن الکبریٰ للبیہقی، 4/48)
تکبیریں اور قراءت
پہلی تکبیر
رفع یدین (ہاتھ کانوں تک اٹھانا) کے ساتھ "اللہ اکبر" کہہ کر ہاتھ باندھ لیں۔
پھر ثناء پڑھیں:
سُبْحَانَکَ اللّٰهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِکَ، وَتَبَارَکَ اسْمُکَ وَتَعَالٰی جَدُّکَ، وَجَلَّ ثَنَاءُکَ وَلَا إِلٰهَ غَيْرُکَ۔
دوسری تکبیر
بغیر ہاتھ اٹھائے "اللہ اکبر" کہہ کر درودِ ابراہیمی پڑھیں:
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلٰی آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، کَمَا صَلَّيْتَ وَسَلَّمْتَ وَبَارَکْتَ وَرَحِمْتَ وَتَرَحَّمْتَ عَلَی إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَی آلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ، إِنَّکَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ۔
تیسری تکبیر
بغیر ہاتھ اٹھائے "اللہ اکبر" کہہ کر میت کے لیے دعائے مغفرت کریں۔
بالغ مرد یا عورت کے لیے دعا:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا، وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا، وَصَغِيْرِنَا وَکَبِيْرِنَا، وَذَکَرِنَا وَاُنْثَانَا۔ اَللّٰهُمَّ مَنْ اَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَاَحْيِهِ عَلَی الْاِسْلَامِ، وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَی الْاِيمَانِ۔
(فتاویٰ عالمگیری 1:164)
ترجمہ:
یا اللہ! ہمارے زندوں اور مردوں کو بخش دے، حاضر و غائب، چھوٹے بڑے، مرد و عورت سب کو۔ یا اللہ! جسے زندہ رکھ تو اسے اسلام پر زندہ رکھ، اور جسے موت دے تو ایمان پر موت دے۔
نابالغ لڑکے کے لیے دعا
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا فَرَطاً، وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا أَجْرًا وَذُخْرًا، وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا شَافِعًا وَمُشَفَّعًا۔
(فتاویٰ عالمگیری 1:164)
ترجمہ:
اے اللہ! اس بچے کو ہمارے لیے آگے بھیجنے والا، اجر و ذخیرہ، اور شفاعت کرنے والا بنا۔
نابالغ لڑکی کے لیے دعا
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا لَنَا فَرَطاً، وَاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا أَجْرًا وَذُخْرًا، وَاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا شَافِعَةً وَمُشَفَّعَةً۔
ترجمہ:
اے اللہ! اس بچی کو ہمارے لیے آگے بھیجنے والی، اجر و ذخیرہ، اور شفاعت کرنے والی بنا۔
اگر کوئی دعا یاد نہ ہو
اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِوَالِدَيْنَا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ۔
ترجمہ: اے اللہ! ہمیں، ہمارے والدین کو اور تمام مومن مردوں و عورتوں کو بخش دے۔
اگر یہ بھی یاد نہ ہو تو جو دعا یاد ہو، وہی پڑھ لینا کافی ہے۔
چوتھی تکبیر
بغیر ہاتھ اٹھائے "اللہ اکبر" کہے اور پھر دائیں بائیں سلام پھیر دے:
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اﷲِ
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اﷲِ

Funeral Prayer (Salat al-Janazah) – Complete Guide According to Quran and Sunnah
The Ruling of Funeral Prayer
The Funeral Prayer (Salat al-Janazah) is Fard Kifayah a communal obligation. If some Muslims perform it, the duty is lifted from others. However, if no one offers it, all are considered sinful.
Intention (Niyyah) and the Imam’s Position
The Imam should stand in line with the chest of the deceased. If the deceased is an adult, the intention is to seek forgiveness for them. If the deceased is a child, the intention is to make the child a source of reward, intercession, and blessing for the family.
Note:
Niyyah (intention) is made in the heart; it is not necessary to say it aloud. The Prophet ﷺ and his Companions never recited specific words for niyyah. Thus, one should only make the intention in the heart:
- “I intend to perform the funeral prayer for this deceased, seeking the pleasure of Allah, following the Imam.”
Step-by-Step Method of Performing the Funeral Prayer
1️⃣ Standing in Rows
The Imam stands facing the chest of the deceased.
- The Prophet ﷺ once led the funeral prayer of a woman and stood in the middle of her body.

It is recommended that at least three rows of people join the prayer.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
- “Whenever three rows of Muslims pray over a believer and seek forgiveness for him, Allah forgives him.”

The Four Takbeers (Allahu Akbar)
🔹 First Takbeer
Raise both hands (Raf‘ al-Yadayn) and say “Allahu Akbar.” (اللہ اکبر) Fold your hands as in regular prayer.
Recite Thana (Opening Supplication):
سُبْحَانَکَ اللّٰهُمَّ وَبِحَمْدِکَ، وَتَبَارَکَ اسْمُکَ وَتَعَالٰی جَدُّکَ، وَجَلَّ ثَنَاءُکَ وَلَا إِلٰهَ غَيْرُکَ۔
Subhanaka Allahumma wa bihamdika, wa tabarakasmuka, wa ta‘ala jadduka, wa jalla thanauka, wa la ilaha ghayruk.
🔹 Second Takbeer
Say “Allahu Akbar” (اللہ اکبر) without raising your hands.
Then recite Durood Ibrahim (Salutation on the Prophet ﷺ):
اَللّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلٰی مُحَمَّدٍ وَّعَلٰی آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ، کَمَا صَلَّيْتَ وَسَلَّمْتَ وَبَارَکْتَ وَرَحِمْتَ وَتَرَحَّمْتَ عَلَی إِبْرَاهِيْمَ وَعَلَی آلِ إِبْرَاهِيْمَ، إِنَّکَ حَمِيْدٌ مَّجِيْدٌ۔
Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad wa ‘ala ali Muhammad, kama sallayta wa sallamta wa barakta wa rahimta wa tarahhamta ‘ala Ibrahima wa ‘ala ali Ibrahima, innaka Hamidun Majid.
🔹 Third Takbeer
Say “Allahu Akbar” ( اللہ اکبر) (without raising hands). Now make du‘a (supplication) for the deceased.
For adult male or female:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا، وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا، وَصَغِيْرِنَا وَکَبِيْرِنَا، وَذَکَرِنَا وَاُنْثَانَا۔ اَللّٰهُمَّ مَنْ اَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَاَحْيِهِ عَلَی الْاِسْلَامِ، وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَی الْاِيمَانِ۔
Allahummaghfir li hayyina wa mayyitina, wa shahidina wa gha’ibina, wa sagheerina wa kabeerina, wa dhakarina wa unthana. Allahumma man ahyaytahu minna fa ahyihi ‘ala al-Islam, wa man tawaffaytahu minna fatawaffahu ‘ala al-iman.
(Fatawa ‘Alamgiri 1:164)
Translation:
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and females.
O Allah, keep alive among us those whom You will keep alive upon Islam, and cause to die among us those whom You will cause to die upon faith.
🔹 For a Deceased Boy (Child):
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ لَنَا فَرَطاً، وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا أَجْرًا وَذُخْرًا، وَاجْعَلْهُ لَنَا شَافِعًا وَمُشَفَّعًا۔
Allahummaj‘alhu lana faratan wa ajran wa dhukhran, waj‘alhu lana shafi‘an wa mushaffa‘an.
(Fatawa ‘Alamgiri 1:164)
Translation:
O Allah, make him for us a reward, a treasure, and an intercessor whose intercession is accepted.
🔹 For a Deceased Girl:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اجْعَلْهَا لَنَا فَرَطاً، وَاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا أَجْرًا وَذُخْرًا، وَاجْعَلْهَا لَنَا شَافِعَةً وَمُشَفَّعَةً۔
Allahummaj‘alha lana faratan wa ajran wa dhukhran, waj‘alha lana shafi‘atan wa mushaffa‘atan.
Translation:
O Allah, make her for us a reward, a treasure, and an intercessor whose intercession is accepted.
🔹 If None of These Duas Are Memorized:
اَللّٰهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلِوَالِدَيْنَا وَلِلْمُؤْمِنِيْنَ وَالْمُؤْمِنَاتِ۔
Allahummaghfir lana wa li walidayna wa lil-mu’minina wal-mu’minat.
Translation:
- O Allah, forgive us, our parents, and all believing men and women.
If even this is not memorized, one may recite any general dua for forgiveness.
🔹 Fourth Takbeer
Say “Allahu Akbar” (اللہ اکبر) (without raising hands). After a short pause, say Salam to end the prayer:
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اﷲِ
اَلسَّلَامُ عَلَيْکُمْ وَرَحْمَةُ اﷲِ
